Podcast episodes with a side of Mustard
Get some Mustard in your ears (not actually, though) with these podcast episodes featuring Becca and Jess!
It's International Podcast Day, and who are we to miss an opportunity for a celebration! Cake, anyone?
There's a podcast for just about everything these days. Podcasts to tell you the news, to send you to sleep, to get you giggling, to have you inspired and to solve crimes! As small business founders who've had to learn how to do everything ourselves, we LOVE a business podcast — we even wrote a blog about our faves!
So we're always pretty chuffed to be interviewed ourselves (and a bit nervous, but don't tell anyone that.) Here's a round-up of some of the podcasts where you can hear more about Mustard Made and how we, two sisters, started a business selling lockers… of all things!
Cubicle to CEO
Want to escape your 9-5 and build your own dream? Cubicle to CEO host Ellen Yin is here to show you how. In episode 212, she spoke to Becca about how we launched Mustard at a trade show. This is an episode jam-packed with practical tips, from how to create pre-show hype, to why Mustard has a 'no chairs' rule at trade shows. You'll also learn how to master the follow-up, whether you're a trade show kinda business or not.
Shopify Masters
Shopify is a huge part of the Mustard family. It's how our lockers get from your screen to your home! So, being asked to come on to their podcast, Shopify Masters, was a real pinch-me moment. Host Shuang Esther Shan chatted with Becca and Jess about how they've built the workplace of their dreams. They talked about finding the balance of flexibility, family and hard work. They also spoke about the benefits of launching in multiple markets.
The Story of a Brand
Host Ramon Vela loves to dive deep into a brand's history and the founders' stories, and in this episode he does just that with Becca and Jess. Together they discuss how Mustard first started, what our core values are why they matter so much, plus some of the more 'colourful' (read: stressful!) challenges Mustard has faced along the way.
CEO School
Stax founder Suneera Madhani started her podcast to help female founders scale their businesses. She is passionate about paving the way for women in business, and featured Becca and Jess on episode 245 of CEO School. In this episode you'll hear them talk about turning failures into a positive, about the importance of marketing from the outset and how to set yourself apart in the market.
My Business Playbook
Thinking of running an online store? This is the episode for you. Becca told host Laura Higgins her top tips on what to avoid when running an online store. She also shared her learnings from the way Covid impacted Mustard's manufacturing, and talked about going into business with her sister (spoiler alert: she highly recommends it!)
The Imposter Syndrome Club
Almost anyone who's ever thought of starting a business will doubt themselves at some point along the way — probably, most of the way! In this special 'superpod' crossover with Finders Keepers, Becca is one of five creatives interviewed about overcoming self-doubt, the joy of collaboration, how to be creatively courageous and more. It's humbling and inspiring to hear from a bunch of creative folks about how they turned their creativity into businesses.
My Daily Business
Ever wish you could hire the business equivalent of a personal trainer? Someone who could coach you, encourage you, and give you a little push when you need it? That's what Fiona Killackey is all about. Her podcast My Daily Business is designed to help small, creative businesses start and scale. In episode 102, she spoke to Becca and Jess about the highs and lows of having a product-based business. They talk about how (and why!) they grew the product range, the support systems they've leaned on for Mustard, and why giving back is a part of the Mustard DNA. If you're looking for a sign to get your business idea off the ground, this might do it!
