Style your locker 3 ways - with Mel Boyden
We’d like to introduce you to Mel Boyden…
We always love scrolling through Interiors blogger Mel’s Instagram feed. Having recently moved to a beautiful, beachside house, she is documenting the renovation process along the way! If you’re a fan of jewel tones, florals and beautiful textures, you’ll find yourself getting lost in her feed. She also runs an interiors blog, www.melaniejadedesign.com where she branches out from her own home-focussed Instagram content and talks all things interior design: from furniture, DIYS and home hacks, to wallpaper and paint colours. She even did a blog post all about our lockers! *blushing*
Mel recently added The Lowdown in Olive to her life (her daughter’s choice!) We wanted to get to know her a little better and give you a peek at three different ways she chose to style her new locker in her home.
Tell us a little about you…
I’m Melanie and I am a full time Interior blogger, Instagrammer and Content Creator. It all began 4 years ago when we were renovating our new house and I was a stay-at-home Mum, having just moved to a new area. I have always loved interior design, designing my bedrooms as a child and teenager and helping my colour-blind Mother to pick out colour schemes! Haha.
One day, I posted a picture of my sofa on Instagram in our newly renovated kitchen and I started getting a lot of likes from people I didn’t know and I was quite bemused by it. This was when I fell upon a whole world of online interior enthusiasts and the rest is history! I now work full time with brands to create content for them in my home. We have also recently moved house and have a whole new renovation project to take on!
How would you describe your style in 3 words?
Colourful, nature-based (biophilic) and slightly eclectic. Although I like to call it fun! I never take myself or my interiors too seriously.
What’s your inspiration?
I think we are absolutely bombarded with inspiration these days and it can sometimes be difficult to stay true to your own style and drown out the interior noise! I guess the first person who inspired me was my Mum as she was forever redecorating the house. I wouldn’t say I draw my inspiration from one source in particular (although Instagram and Pinterest are a huge daily inspiration). I like what I like and if I see something that catches my attention, whether it be in a magazine, online, restaurant, hotel or friends house, I pick out the bits that I love and use my own style to make it work in my home
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend?
Somewhere on my own with a good book! Haha, only kidding… Kind of. I have a 7-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son and my husband works permanently from home so it is always loud and busy in our house. I very rarely get any quiet time or time to myself, so a spa weekend with my interior magazines and an amazing 3 course meal in a fabulously decorated restaurant would do me just fine 😊

I put this amazing wallpaper up by Photowall in my daughter's room the day after we moved into our new house! I loved the attention to detail and whimsical nature of it and wanted a piece of furniture that could bring out the beautiful colours. Originally, I wanted Blush but my very determined daughter decided she didn't want any more pink in her bedroom and she loved the Olive green. I am so pleased we went for this colour as it is the perfect match for the green in the wallpaper. We originally used it as a bedside table so my daughter could put all her books, trinkets and things inside that she wanted to hide from Mummy! :)

With such a statement piece of wallpaper in my daughter's bedroom, I didn't want the other walls to feel left out! We painted the walls in Santorini Martini by Graham & Brown and then I had an idea to paint a rainbow, incorporating part of the wallpaper. Once I finished the rainbow wallpaper, we moved the Olive Lowdown locker to this side of the room as it looked perfect here against the rainbow colours.

The plug sockets in my daughter's bedroom are oddly placed, so even though I love the Lowdown next to the rainbow mural, we decided to move her desk there with her computer on as this is where all the plug sockets are. The locker now sits against the green wall and we are slowly going to create a little gallery wall around it with art my daughter loves. I think the Olive Lowdown is such a statement piece in itself, it doesn't need anything else to make it stand out!
